My family is full of ice cream lovin' fools (I do not fall in that category - I can take it or leave it, and most of the time I leave it). When Hubby is home all of his dates with the children end in a visit to an ice cream shop, or if we live in Texas a stop at Dairy Queen is required, yes -required.  So when a friend told me about this place The Waffle Cone, I KNEW I had to take the kid-o's here.  Now it is WAY out in Copperas Cove - but the 15 minute trek is well worth it, even for a non-ice cream lovin' fool like myself.  And since we were attending Vacation Bible School in Cove and the theme was "Shake it up Cafe, Where Kids Carry out God's Recipe"  it was like God himself was sending me a sign.  How could I refuse?  So the last day of VBS, I loaded the car with kids and headed to "Waffle Cone" for an ice cream filled LUNCH.  Yes, you heard me correctly, I said lunch.

OK, for lunch I did make them eat spaghetti......

ICE CREAM SPAGHETTI that is!!!
Picture
Best spaghetti EVER!
After 'spaghetti' we ordered a "MEGA SPLIT".  I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really did not expect this monstrosity!!
Picture
5 different flavors, cookie dough, birthday cake, mint chocolate chip, crazy colors and strawberry...each child picked a flavor and then shared the entire thing.

They were so excited and it was KILLING them that I made them take a picture before they dove in!
They were all going strong, I even pitched in to help them for a while, but there came a point when Girl, her friend and Boy 2 threw in the towel and they were done.....

This is the point where 3 of them dropped out.
Down to two.....

And then there was one.....

5 kids, 5 HUGE scoops of ice cream, 2 bananas, hot fudge, caramel, 2 cherries, oh and let's not forget the bowl of spaghetti they started with...  DONE!!  What a great way to end Vacation Bible School!

We can't wait to take Hubby when he gets back from Afghanistan!!

If you ever find yourself in Copperas Cove and you are looking for a quick place to grab some grub, head over to El Corral Restaurant #2! (I have no idea where #1 is.) It is right next to Blockbusters on HWY 190.  This place is YUMMY!  The only draw back is you can only eat out - drive thru only.  Great Authentic Mexican food cooked up fast & not too pricy!  They also serve breakfast, so swing for a breakfast burrito the next time you are in Cove!

We eat here often & everything on the menu is good!

Last night I planned to make cilantro-lime chicken for dinner, however I had just skimmed over the the recipe not realizing it needed to marinate for 4-8 hours and since I had been at the dentist office all afternoon I didn't really didn't want to cook anyway so we loaded the kids in the minivan (yes, I said minivan) & headed to Mel's Burger Joint, a cute little place here in Copperas Cove.  The decor is adorable & the people are great!  I love reading all the signs hanging on the wall, my favorite one said "Be nice or go away", another cute one said "In God we trust, all others must pay cash".  And it is true, you must pay cash at Mel's, they take no other form of payment, I even offered up one of my cute kids for payment, but they still said "cash only".

They even have these little triangle peg games on each table to keep the children (and adults) entertained, or in our case, keep them fighting.  Luckily Mel’s was not that busy when we were there so we were able to take the games off other tables so each of our children could have their own and we could have dinner in peace.

This is a large basket of fries; it was more than enough for our family.  All six of us rank the type of fries we like in order, this type of fry is 2nd to bottom on most everyone's list (with the BIG FAT steak fry being at the bottom), however, these fries were pretty good for being ranked toward the bottom on our favorite fry list.  We would order them again, but if we do, next time we will order them with CHEESE!

I'm the onion ring fan, I LOVE o’rings.  These, I liked & would order them again, but I would give them 3.5 out of 5 stars.  Not the best o'rings I've ever had, but not the worst either.
Picture
Two of the kids ordered grilled cheese sandwiches,  I am assuming they were good since both kids gobbled them up.
Picture
I ordered the mushroom swiss burger.  It was good, but I'm guess I'm not as big a fan of Mel’s burgers as others that wrote reviews. I didn't really think this burger was much to write home about.  Plus they charged extra for lettuce, tomato & onion.  Really?  Aren't burgers supposed to come with veggies on them?  Don’t get me wrong, they were good, just not “great” like I was expecting.

So, in review, Hubby and I are torn, would we go back?  Maybe, but in our opinion, it was a bit to pricy, and the fact that they charged us $1.00 for TAP WATER kind of threw us for a loop.  So if you go be prepared to pay extra for everything, including mustard and mayo, an extra .25 cents for both of these items. Ketchup is free.  For the six of us, our bill totaled $62.00 for 4 burgers, 2 grilled cheese sandwiches, fries, o'rings 4 drinks & 2 waters. The atmosphere was great, and the people were friendly, but  I would have rather had that top at Dillard’s I saw the other day....
